What's included in the Payroll patch?

Changes in Payroll 8.2.10.3
  • Correctly format OR EFW2 state ID for the RS record
Changes in Payroll 8.2.10.2
  • More flexibility on default open/save locations (windows)
  • 940 and Tax Summary do not include 'DD income' (Employer Sponsored Health Insurance Income)
Changes in Payroll 8.2.10.1
Payroll:
  • Fixed problems associated with corrupted Check/W2/W3 Formats
  • Fixed Oregon EFW2
  • Re-Added 'Rebuild' feature for checks getting out of sync
  • New Year 2012 with 8.2.12 should now be OK to do, and should also work faster for large databases with multiple companies.
  • Added a wait curser during new year processing so it doesn't look like Mac or Windows is stuck.
  • Fixed strange "-19213898273_Auto_Backup_1-3-12.db" and similar issues.
Changes in Payroll 8.2.10
Payroll:
  • Correct default of 'None Apply' for 'Kind of Employer' in Federal EFW2
Changes in Payroll 8.2.9
Payroll:
  • Correctly place 'Kind of Employer' in Federal EFW2
Changes in Payroll 8.2.8
Payroll:
  • Fixed data conversion problem with Bank Account Numbers
Changes in Payroll 8.2.7
Payroll:
  • Fixed W3 format conversion problem. The W3 formats should now correctly be updated to reflect the changes made in the 2011 W3 form. Because of the changes in the new form, user's may have to manually adjust their W3 format before printing. Anyone using the default W3 format, however, will probably not need to make any adjustments.
  • Fixed 940 format
  • Updated Federal EFW2 (and all states that follow the Federal format) to include required new fields such as 'Kind of Employer'. 'Kind of Employer' is determined by the user's selection from 5 new radio buttons in the EFW2 setup screen. Also the program computes Roth IRA and Employer Sponsored Health totals.
  • Reset the Following "Tax Table Information" to (2011) values:
    • Federal, state, and local tax tables and parameters
    • Income, deduction, and hour category parameters
  • Changed the 'Load 2012 Values' button in the Federal Taxes dialog back to 'Load 2011 Values'. Clicking this button will now reload the 2011 values.
  • Fixes 'tax values are for a different year' problems.
Changes in Payroll 8.2.6
Payroll:
  • Local Tax Tables can now be created and edited again. Hooray!!
  • The 'Remind to Backup when Closing' option is back, but slightly modified. The checkbox in the Preferences dialog has been changed to 'Remind to Backup when Closing Database-. Selecting it will cause Payroll to remind the user to backup (and give them the option to do so) whenever they are:
    • Closing Payroll
    • New/Close Year
    • Switching Databases
    • Restoring from a Backup
  • Changed the text in the EFW2 Setup dialog from 'Phone' to 'Phone (no hyphens)'.
  • New FUTA computations for the 940, 940 Schedule A, and the 940 quarter liability reports.
  • New Forms:
    • W3
    • 940
    • 940 Schedule A
    • 941 Schedule B
    • 943
    • 944
  • Fixed bug that caused the first company created/converted in/into a database to be almost completely deleted (everything except Company Info) when going to a New Year. This bug only affects databases that have had a company deleted from them via the "Delete Company" option in the File menu. And even then, it only happens if the purposefully deleted company was not the first company created/converted in/into the database.
  • Fixed bug that caused generating the 940-A PDF to crash Payroll.
  • Fixed bug that caused RV Record data for Idaho (ID) and Maryland (MD) EFW2s to not save correctly and fill the EFW2 Extra Data dialog with garbage symbols.
  • Fix for various bugs related to database corruption of MMREF and Company's Direct Deposit information
  • Updated EFW2s for the following states:
    • South Carolina (SC)
    • Maryland (MD)
    • Oregon (OR) - Now requires additional information for "Hours Worked" when creating the file (like Idaho and Maryland).
  • Fixed a bug that prevented a backup of an older version database from being restored by an older version of 8.2 once the backup has been already been restored with a newer version of 8.2.
  • Prevent users from accidentally overwriting their application database, the default company database, or the currently opened database when creating a backup (and naming it "payroll_2011.db" for example).
  • Don't the change the name of the currently opened database when restoring from a database with a different name (even though it's 'not recommended').
  • Windows should now automatically open the '_Backups' folder in the 'CheckMark' directory instead of the '_Reports' folder when creating a backup. Sorry, no 'remember last save location' yet.
Payroll Converter:
  • Correctly convert RV Record data for Idaho (ID) and Maryland (MD) EFW2s.

Once you've downloaded and installed the patch, you should reload the state tables (by clicking "Load Latest Table" in the State Taxes screen), if you process payroll for one of the states with changes. Refer to "Loading 2011 Tax Tables.pdf", under the Help menu in the program, for information on loading state tax tables.

Changes in Payroll 8.2.5
Payroll:
  • Updated W2 4-up form to 2011
  • Correctly store/retrieve NY state tax values
  • Removed rounding errors on some state tax values
  • Fixed font issue on printing of checks (windows only)
Payroll Converter:

Changes in Payroll 8.2.4
Payroll:
  • The message informing users that "if it's your first time running 8.2, and you have existing companies, please convert" will no longer appear when creating a new Company Database outside of the CheckMark directory on the hard drive. It should now correctly appear once, the first time Payroll 8.2 is run.
  • The Print Check Format Window should now allow for all 11 inches of the page, instead of cutting it off at 8" or 9" on some machines.
  • Frequency of "CheckMark Error 8: Unable to update/create database" error messages should be reduced. If this error message occurs in the future, it is more likely that the user can just re-launch payroll and open without problems or other error messages.
  • Fixed more "SQLITE_ERROR[1]: no such column, NaN: Unable to insert fed/state/local tax line" error messages. These messages are (so far) harmless and can be skipped safely, but 8.2.4 should drastically reduce their frequency, if not completely eliminate them.
  • Fix for "SQLITE_ERROR[1]: no such column, NaN: Unable to insert employee income" error message or crashing when reloading loading state or local tables. This only occurs if the 'Sort Employees by Department' checkbox is selected in Preferences.

  • Check, W2 and W3 formats converted correctly
  • Select appropriate default check format
  • Fixed the following error message: "Database Error: Unable to insert into fedTaxLines. SQLITE_ERROR[1]: no such column: NaN"
  • Fixed rare bug where the first authorized signature line on checks would stop printing after conversion. This bug only applies to companies on Windows where the 'prfmt.fmt' file in the company flat files folder was removed and copied into the 'My Documents' folder or the 'PAYROLL' folder in 'Program Files'.
  • Added a 'Cancel' button to the 'Search network drives' prompt when Finding Companies to convert.
  • Added the payroll icon to the Preferences and About dialogs where it was previously missing.

Changes in Payroll 8.2.2
  • Sync Company Conversion Application Database Version with Payroll

If you use the Create Payments (Employer Payments) to create checks for deductions or taxes to an Employer Payee and you converted using version 8.2.0 or 8.2.1 of CheckMark Payroll, please read the following. If you don’t use Create Payments or don’t use payroll to post to MultiLedger or import to another accounting program, you can ignore this.

When you used Payroll 8.2.0 or 8.2.1 to create a payment for deductions or taxes, the check will not appear in your Employer Payment Posting Summary. So if you try to bring this file into your accounting program, the Posting Summary results will not post as it is missing information. The new CheckMark Payroll 8.2.2 will fix this for all FUTURE Employer Payments, but for payments already created that are missing information, you need to do the following:

  1. To fix the existing checks that are incorrect, you need to make sure you have downloaded and installed the 8.2.2 Patch and verify that 8.2.2 is open when you get into Payroll. Then you can delete the incorrect check(s) and then recreate them.
  2. To delete an Employer Payment, click Modify Payments on the command center, select the check and click delete.
  3. To recreate an Employer Payment, click on Create Payments and recreate exactly as you had previously done, using the same check number you had originally used.

Changes in Payroll 8.2.1
  • Correctly handle creation of checks with distributions
  • Mac permissions (temporary files)
  • Print font conversion
  • DE9 XML report now saved as XML file (from TXT file)
  • Converter will no longer convert flat files with incorrect size
Once you've downloaded and installed the patch, you should reload the state tables (by clicking "Load Latest Table" in the State Taxes screen), if you process payroll for one of the states with changes. Refer to "Loading 2011 Tax Tables.pdf", under the Help menu in the program, for information on loading state tax tables.
