- While Internet access is not a requirement to use Payroll, it is highly recommended. Periodic changes in the program for tax forms and tax tables are necessary when doing payroll. State tax information, tutorial videos and access to CheckMark's Knowledge Base are all available on-line.

- Yes, you can. The data files for Payroll are cross-platform which enables you to backup on one platform and restore to another at any time.

- How do I get updates and patches for Payroll? How often?
- The CheckMark Payroll Update is based on calendar year reporting and should be purchased each year to keep the software current. The Update includes the revised program, the latest tax tables and the latest tax forms. Invariably, there are changes to tax tables, tax forms or the program during the calendar year. To keep CheckMark Payroll current all year long, free Patches are available to users running the latest version. Both Updates and Patches are available on-line. Order the Update well before year's end so you are prepared for the new payroll year. Install the free Patch every time it's available. To be sure you are running the latest version, select "Check for Latest Version" under the Help menu. You'll need to have Internet access for this feature to work.

- Yes, Payroll will create a file compatible with National Payment Corporations web direct deposit or an ACH file acceptable at most banks.

- No. Since direct deposit is set up in each employee, you can have employees that receive regular printed paychecks and others that participate in direct deposit.

- You will need to check with your bank. Direct deposit will work with any bank that will accept ACH (Automated Clearing House) files. (It is rare that banks cannot accept these files.)

- Payroll will create the ACH file for up to two accounts per employee per pay period. National Payment Corp allows you to deposit into up to four accounts for each employee per pay period.
